too bad that it's on the red list. but one can very well imagine how it happened: in fact, i think we northern germans may be the ones to blame because judging from its german name, which has the word "herring" in it, we must have been mistaking it for fish all along, collecting it for centuries and brutally chopping it up to turn it into our notorious heringssalat – stupid is as stupid does! ; )) greetings, sabine.
