Autumn in the Engadin

On this first day of Winter, a fond look back to a golden autumn afternoon in the Engadin.

Mother Nature was being a bit "moody" as I rode the Rhätische Bahn's Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano, Italy on this October day in 2010,
but as we came out of the Bernina Range, which had been cloaked in mountain mists for most of the journey, the old gal decided to smile
and honor the Upper Engadin's claim to its Champagne Climate, with its 300+ days of sparkling sunshine. The mists began to clear as we
passed the station for Diavolezza, and the champagne cork popped as we neared Pontresina, allowing the autumn colors to "pop" as well.

In the background, the mighty Bernina Range from which this very special train takes its name.

Happily, the deluxe wrap-around window cars of the BEX also have nice vestibules with windows that come down.
Ahhh.....bet you can guess where this Alp-loving camera-toter was...all the way back to Chur.
