frosted fence at night

Taken at Alexandra airport in new zealand just experimenting with night photography still unsure of how to use camera at night. Used car lights to light the fence up. This was taken after a hoar frost at the end of june 2006. Taken with Digital Cam with out flash

The biggest problem with trying to light snow, ice or frost (I always get a kick when people spell it WHORE) at night is trying to keep everything white and to not burn out the highlights. An idea is to put your camera on a tripod, or any solid surface, and bracket your exposures. You can then use Photoshop to select the best parts of each image, then colour balance the final product.

A little bit of light in the background would make the shot a lot more dynamic. The time to do this would be AFTER the sun has set, but when there is some colour in the sky. Just some suggestions. Hope you don't mind. Cheers from Canada. Patrick
