In Ancient Olympia (5)
Olympia a sanctuary of ancient Greece in Elis on the Peloponnese peninsula, is known for having been the site of the Olympic Games in classical times. The Olympic Games were held every four years throughout Classical Antiquity, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.[2] The first Olympic Games were in honor of Zeus.

A! Adele, here you shot a wonderful and quite documentary picture that shows a remarkable merge of Classical Ancient Greek and Byzantine architecture. If I'm not mistaken, this is the ancient site of the workhouse of the famous greek sculptor Feidias which, many centuries later, the Byzantine emperors demolished building an Orthodox church on it just to signify the dominance of Christianity over Dodekatheon!..A common practice that continued later on with Christians and Muslims building churches and mosques on each other...The survived Byzantine architecture is quite evident on your wonderful photo and looks so diverse among the other ruins of the Classical antiquity.Feidias was of course the sculptor of the Gold/Ivory statue of Zeus, one of the seven world wonders, that decorated his Temple in Olympia and which was destroyed by enemies and lost through the centuries.
A really documentary picture you've got here!
regards alexander
