Newark-bound PATH Train Climbs Ramp to Dock Bridge in Blue Hour
A Newark-bound PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) train of PA-5 railcars climbs the ramp
from the Harrison PATH station to the massive Dock Bridge during a wintry December twilight.
The Dock Bridge is actually a pair of vertical-lift bridges over the Passaic River which carry Amtrak, NJ Transit,
and PATH trains from Newark’s Penn Station to destinations in northern New Jersey and into Manhattan. The tracks below the PATH ramp are the high-speed Northeast Corridor, servicing Amtrak and NJT commuter trains.
While the two directions of PATH tracks run side by side for much of their routes between points in New Jersey and Manhattan, here at Harrison, they flank the broad NE Corridor. As the PATH train climbs the flyover, it is also negotiating the curve that will allow it to enter Newark Penn on the same side as departing trains, although on a different level.

Very powerful image. All the lights and the worm-like shape of the train against the background structure have a very strong effect, especially in this beautiful evening light. Emotions and stories are conjured up by this scene, and I feel a certain yearning for going on a night train...
