To God through Giotto
Firenze
Piazza di Santa Crocce
Basilica of Santa Crocce(Tempio dell'Itale Glorie).
They say that by going to church you can communicate with God.This, in a sense, may be true but not through the Clergy but through Art...Through the divine works of Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Giotto, Rafael, El Grecco,and,and,and......so many others.
In Santa Crocce of Firenze, one can do that in any of it's sixteen chapels, through the masterpieces of Giotto and his pupils.
In the photo scenes from the Holy Passion.

: )) i like the allusion in the title! or is it just me that automatically has to think "ad astra per aspera", when reading it? ; )* the sheer "dynamic harmony" of the altar-like composition alone is exalting! and then there's so much to see, too, for example, the cityscape on the hill behind jesus bearing the cross – wow, absolutely magnificent! giotto sure knew how to attract the gaze of the common crowd! he sure has me gaping and marveling at his art here!! an absolutely arresting work and a beautiful photo of it! greetings, sabine.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*speaking of "aspera"… it's often such a thin line between the utterly divine and the utterly prosaic: strangely – inexcusably! – enough, i couldn't help but be reminded of this iconic clip here, while taking in the golden splendor of divine giotto's work ; ): http://youtu.be/5Q6PqhVyx_I
