The old southern cemetery in Munich, Bavaria, traces back to 1563, when it was used as cemetery for the poor and the victims of the plague. 1788 it became the central cemetery of Munich, still outside of the cities borders/walls. It served as Munich's only cemetery until 1868 when the (now old) northern cemetery was established.
