Castle in the air

The famous Neuschwanstein Castle that was built in the mid-19th century by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, as a retreat and also in honour of Richard Wagner. It is located in Hohenschwangau in southern Bavaria in the foothills of the Alps, right on the border with Austria.
It is very close to Hohenschwangau Castle, built by King Ludwig's father, King Maximilian II, but one-upmanship was alive and well, and it is deliberately built on a higher hill and so looks down on his father's castle!
