Dave's Dome at Mt. Wilson Observatory

This little dome houses the telescope owned by the superintendent of the Mt. Wilson Observatory in the San Gabriel Mountains just north of Los Angeles, California. The lights of Los Angeles glare below as the Sun sets, chased by the crescent Moon.

Mt. Wilson Observatory is one of the most historically important astronomy sites on Earth, home to the 100" Hooker Telescope (built by George Ellery Hale), which Edwin Hubble used to confirm that the Universe is expanding. Sadly, few people in Los Angeles are aware of the monumental importance of the site. If there could be sacred ground to the astronomical community, this would be it.
