The Anubis baboon is named after the ancient Egyptian god Anubis, the god of the cult of the dead.
In the cult of the dead, priests wore an Anubis mask and performed embalming and various funeral rites so that the deceased could speak, see, hear and smell again.
Anubis was worshipped throughout Egypt.

In Greco-Roman times, Anubis became a cosmic deity who ruled over heaven and earth and brought light to mankind.

Der Anubis-Pavian ist nach dem altägyptischen Gott Anubis benannt, dem Gott des Totenkults.
Im Totenkult trugen die Priester eine Anubis-Maske und führten Einbalsamierungen und verschiedene Bestattungsriten durch, damit die Verstorbenen wieder sprechen, sehen, hören und riechen konnten.
Anubis wurde in ganz Ägypten verehrt.

In der griechisch-römischen Zeit wurde Anubis zu einer kosmischen Gottheit, die über Himmel und Erde herrschte und den Menschen das Licht brachte.
