fine stonemasonry
High in Tzoumerca mountains in Greece(800-1300 m) there are some old villages still keeping a fine piece of architecture due to the amazing skill of their stonemasons, their art inherited from father to son till the end of the 19th century.They became quite famous and they were called to many other places in order to apply their skill.Even today, the majority of these villages haven't been spoiled by usual bad standards of civilization.
In the photo, in one of those villages Kalarites, the roof of a house, a fine example of this kind of stone construction to secure a solid, absolutely waterproof roof and, what is very important, able to sustain the excessive weight of winter snowfall.

It is good to know that these great skills are still in existence. Too many have been lost, eaten up by modern technology and 'better' methods...... This roof looks as though it will last for ever.......and is a credit to those craftsmen who made it.:))

Very interesting and unusual! Till this moment thought that stone roofs exist in Norway only:-) But in Norway roof stones are smaller and thinner.Very impressive image!
