God Will Protect Me
A young man only two weeks ago has mad the crossing from Libya to Italy. Calmly, he told me about his life in prison when he came to claim his fathers land. For two months he was considered a good catch rom the small money he had stalled his disappearance for good. In the night he had his own escape and realized he had to find a boat to the north. Find a boat is dangerous, and often fatal by people that see their cargo worthless after they receive payment for their sea fair crossing. The over packed boats are dangerous for human safety. With harsh conditions from the see itself. Fatalities are high.
Now processed, He walks without fear , but unable to have any work due to Italian laws at a time when Italian people them selves are feeling the fall of their economy. It is a time when there is no adjustments, but a little humanitarian care so voyagers to a new land might not starve.
I asked him if he could swim. There was a pause and then a warm smile. In deep voice his wisdom reached me when he said, "God will protect me".
