In the photo the volcanic rock formations in Goreme of Cappadocia. These cones were formed after many subsequent eruptions. When the turf is mixed with rock, usualy basalt, it initiates an erosion process that can result in the famous cone shaped chimneys, Finally the turf surrounding the basalt is worn away until it stands at the top of a large cone.
