Leather Manufacturing #1 Belt

Although not having much time - I discovered Milan Palma's Leather Atelier Store in Maastricht NL. Beside wonderful handmade bags, which takes more time, I had the opportunity to make some shots of manufacturing a leather belt. Here the belt stripe is cut from the big saddle leather sheet.

    Hello Berthold

Sorry for my forced absence and thanks for your concern over our last earthquake, everything is fine here..about the picture you always manage to sneak away on this weokshops..handycrafts and evreything hand made stirr me up a lot..not long ago I went for shopping in a place like this, the first you notice is the smell..leather has a special smell, working tools are not much..but the ability of the craftman..nice angle that denotes de man's concentration..an artist.

    Cheers
    Carlos

a fascinating look "behind the scenes" where some things are still crafted by hand ... great from this angle, well lit and very good in black and white !!
    Sunday greetings,
    Adele

i like your ongoing series of showing people at work at their craft! to me this shot is special because of the intimacy achieved by the point of view: the looking down not only on the hands crafting the belt, but also on the "embroidered" story-telling skin and, most important of all, the forehead, hair and face bent over the work in concentration and looking all vulnerable and "near" all of a sudden… the soft and somewhat tender light – beautiful! and needless to say, he and his work make for a great b/w motif! very intense work, berthold! greetings, sabine.
