Monastery on Taung Kalat
Often named wrongly as Mount Popa.
Southwest of Mount Popa this is Taung Kalat (pedestal hill), sheer-sided volcanic plug, which rises 737 metres above the sea level. A Buddhist monastery is located at the summit of Taung Kalat (not Mount Popa). At one time, the Buddhist hermit U Khandi maintained the stairway of 777 steps to the summit of Taung Kalat.
This photo was captured during my honeymoon in February 1981 and scanned with my NIKON CoolScan V ED.
It makes me fun to select and scann old photos, this reminds me old memories I made during an amazing trip.
