necessity design
Northern Greece West Macedonia Prespes lakes (near the Albanian borders)
People in that area, more in past times of course, used to design and build houses by their own hands. Most of the time they were guided by necessity,availability of means,prudency, instict and...instant inspiration! Usually a simple look at the house is enough to display the amazing diversity of materials used. At the photo, just at the far end of the road, one can get a glimpse of the big lake.
(Mamiya 645 AFD III, Ilford FP4 120 film, ND and R filters used. Negative scanned later).

look to the stairs on the right - it is surely still in use...Perhaps this design will even be earthquake resistant

it's HUGE and despite its "necessity design" quite pretty and special looking! in fact, for a moment i thought it was all made of rattan and thus an inhabitalbe basket – i would have killed for such a thing as a child! ; )) beautifully composed with the woman and donkey underneath making it interesting and showing us the dimensions of this architectural gem born out of necessity! greetings, sabine.Sue Thompson 22/07/2013 9:24
The time and ingenuity they must have used to build this is amazing. It is pleasing to the eye and I love that veranda with its pots with a view to the lake. The Lady watching you and the white horse give life to the shot showing that this is a home......not merely a museum piece.:))
