old road sign at Talkin

These old road signs (probably from the 1930's) - painted black and white - are a distinctive feature of Cumberland/Cumbria.

Are you only weekend trip or little bit longer sightseeing?

The eastern part of  Cumbria - such as Talkin and Geltsdale is close to where i live in Tyneside.
I went there yesterday with my wife, for a walk  in the afternoon/early evening.
It is about 1 hour 15 minutes away.
And, incidentally - I occasionally think about how this part of England is the narrowest part of Britain ; (just about).
It is only about 90 miles (145 kilometres) between the north Sea and the Irish Sea, at our latitude.
The famous area of Cumbria, the lake district, is a longer journey - at least 2 hours away - and i will very rarely, if ever, go there on a "day trip".
      So - now you know.
