Greece
city of Nafplio (for more information about the city please refer to the first photo in the series. Thank you very much)

Nafplio was one of the first cities to fall in Greek hands(1822) during the Independence war(1821-1828) and also the first capital of the country till Athens took over in 1834. Since the early Byzantine times, Nafplio was one of the major and most important Mediterranean nautical bases, constant "apple of discord" between Venetians and Ottomans till was eventually declared greek territory in 1822.
The city, of course, bears the marks of all these occupational periods.

The photo was taken from Constitutional square, the biggest of the old city, where one can see beautiful greek houses of the early post revolutionary classical style, an elegant Ottoman mosque built in mid 16th century and the imposing castle in the higher hill of the city built by the Venetians, early 18th century, in order to reinforce the defence of the city against the Ottomans.

In the photo the roof of the mosque and part of the imposing castle. The monuments, no matter how advert messages can signify, know very well to coexist peacefuly leaving behind hatred as also do history books in their pages in the library shelves.
Only people find it extremely difficult to coexist and bring hatred and disaster back to surface....
