The Living Forest (181) : A carpet of Wood Anemones
At this moment hundreds of Wood Anemones are growing on the forest floor in dense carpets.
Among the wild flowers, the Wood Anemone belongs to the earliest blooming species in the forest.
In springtime, they benefit thereby a lot from the sunlight that shines through the still leafless trees.
It is said that the Wood Anemones bloom at the same time as the return of the swallow from Africa.
Location : Hertogenwald at Eupen (Belgium)
Dutch name : Bosanemoon
German name : Buschwindröschen
Latin name : Anemone nemorosa
Here’s a picture of a Wood Anemone in detail
