The Sacred Lake 2

China
Tibet
Travelling from Lasa to Lake Yamdrok at an altitude of 4500mt. (For more details please refer to the previous photo in the series. Thank you very much).

The Yamdrok lake was the final destination of a nearly four hours tedious drive on a primitive bus but with a worthy compensation reaching the top, at 4500mt altitude. The lake is the biggest of the three sacred lakes of Tibet , is surrounded by imposing often snowcapped mountains and fed by numerous side streams. Its surface is 700 km2 (length 75km) with an average depth of 50m. According to local mythology the lake is a transformation of a Godess and if its waters ever dry Tibet will no longer be habitable. The place is very peaceful and one can see lamas from a nearby monastery strolling around. Silence is astounding and if you forget wise suggestions and try a faster step or run your strong...heart beats in your chest will remind you to slow down to a soft walk because of the altitude... A place to remember!

The photo is a panoramic view of the lake, mountains and clouds being the highlights of Tibet, as always...
