USA Fade Away?
I have such a love/hate relationship with the USA. The country is in real economic and moral trouble and the upcoming elections will determine the fate of so many people and so many nations. In Canada we have a saying - "When the USA sneezes - we get the cold" Are we witnessing the end of an empire or the rebirth of a nation?

I don't know if I can place an external link here, but I'll try ... I wrote this song back during the primary elections, but it is still topical:http://www.vsplanet.com/mp3s/r/rankamateurrecordsMarkWeaver-PleaseVoteforMe.mp3
Of course, America's frustration with democracy is not recent - here are Paul Simon's words from 1968:
" ... going to the Candidates' debate ...
laugh about it, shout about it, when you've got to choose ...
any way you look at it you lose."
And please accept a big "excuse me" from those of us who are sneezing quite a lot these days ... :)

When faced with two choices the US seems to make a habit of taking the most obviously rediculous. The economic peril in which the west currently finds itself, has its foundations in a culture of greed and misuse of power.. the irony is, we are all complicit. The only possible outcome is that China, who is bank-rolling the US, will emerge as the dominant economic power in the world and we will all dance to that tune. The US is sneezing but I doubt it is the first symptom of a cold, the Bubonic Plague starts off with the same symptoms.Petra Sommerlad 28/09/2008 6:29
It depends on who will win. None of both will be in the position to change things fast but I believe that Obama has more realistic ideas and a better staff. Obama will give more impulses I suppose. In Germany most people I know would vote for him but America is rather conservative and we will have to wait and see what happens. Anyway it will be difficult to become worse than Bush!!!!By the way: Splendid photo. LG PEtra
