A propos de moi
Please call me Walt. I'm new to fotoCommunity today (7/29/2005). Already I feel comfortable with the idea of whiling away time here.
I recently (11/2004) retired from a career (40 odd years) of getting one or another mainframe IBM computers to obey MY commands in 1401 Autocoder (or flipping bit switches), or 360 Assembler/Cobol, or RPG (Report Progrm Generator), and most recently with Software AG's Natural / ADABAS.
All that time I passionately persued my favorite hobby: taking pictures whether photograpy or videography - analog only.
I will be purchasing my first digital camera soon and can hardly wait to begin the learning curve with it. It will probably be a Canon, don't know for sure. I'd love to hear from each and every one of you who are still reading to give your best review of your favorite tool-of-the-trade. Any and all gems of wisdom you wish to leave here will be greatly appreciated.
Oh, BTW, 'bout a year before retiring, I bought a home and moved from Sacratomato to Yuba City (40 mile North of the Capital). I frequent both North & South SF Bay Areas as well as Santa Cruz & the Monterey Bay Area where I was lucky enough to grow up with six younger siblings.
Whenever you plan to visit Yuba City / Marysville for a few days, drop me an e-mail ( athelm@hotmail.com ). There is no end to the fun that can be scared up in this lovely part of the Northern California Paradise. And that is also the name of one of the many quaint towns nearby.
Well, I'm probably approaching the space allocated to this section of my profile (and certainly I've exceeded my usual output of words for such).
I'm looking forward to meeting and sharing ideas with all of you. As Dino used to say "Keep those cards and letters coming". I promise to reply to every one.
Kind regards,
Walt Helm

You completely left out any mention of what genre these pictures/videos are.Astute observation you make, pal.
So beginning with my younger brother and five sisters, continuing thru 6 children, 10 grandchillin and a 1 year old great grand daughter, Mia. It's mostly family events.
Hopefully, I'll manage to differsify my portfolio from here out. I'd love to do a scenic series of the Sutter Buttes, the world's smallest complete Mountain Range. They are practically visible from my backyard and I have yet to even visit their splendor and majesty.
