A snap shoot with the self timer at DrolmaLa 5636m

I was standing in front of the flagpole on the top of the pass. The flagpole has many strands of prayer flags going to other surrounding flagpoles, and around the rock are placed all kinds of things by the passing pilgrims, like clothing, horns, animal skulls, hair and butter stuck to the rock, and other such mementos.
A bid higher beside the trail is a memory for Herbert Tichy (†1987) who was an Austrian author, geologist, journalist and climber.
Herbert Tichy was in the area in 1936, attempting to climb Gurla Mandhata. When he asked one of the Garpons of Ngari whether Kailash was climbable, the Garpon replied, "Only a man entirely free of sin could climb Kailash - And he wouldn't have to actually scale the sheer walls of ice to do it – he'd just turn himself into a bird and fly to the summit."

My picture was captured in May 2004 with Kodachrome 25 ASA and scanned with NIKON CoolScan V ED
