A street in Dahab

Street of Dahab, a small town in Southern Sinai, famous for diving and environmental friendly tourism the Beduin communities provided.

With the armed struggle in the region of Northern Sinai and the crash of a Russian airplane 2015, nowadays the tourists keep absent.
Beduins which are , anyways a marginalized population in Egypt, lost their income generating through environmental friendly tourism.
Poverty and unemployment are constantly topics in the conversations with people.

Meeting with villagers I learned, with the lack of alternatives and high economic pressure they opened the door of criminal business- the agriculture of opium.
