Arrábida Bridge - II
The Arrábida Bridge was the second bridge between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia to be built for road use, being one of the six remaining bridges in Oporto, which are in order of building the Maria Pia Bridge, the Bridge Louis I, the Self Arrábida Bridge, St. John's Bridge, the Freixo Bridge and the Infante bridge.
By the forties it was found that the circulation in the Luis I Bridge, between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, was done with great difficulty, driven mainly by population growth in the district of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia municipality, and recognized the need for an alternative crossing. In March 1952 the JAE (Autonomous Board of Roads, awarded the preparation of preliminary designs to a world-renowned Bridges Engineer -. Professor Edgar Cardoso The project would be approved in 1955.
