The oldest part of this impressive water castle, the square keep, was already built in the 13th century.
Around 1655 the keep was enlarged into a fortified castle that we can still see nowadays.

Between 1789 and 1843 the castle was used as a religious institute and ended unfortunately in decay.

During both world wars, the castle became even more damaged but in 1952 the edifice was restored in its full splendor and was saved from total decay.
