Castle Bouillon (Belgium)

This huge fortified medieval stronghold was already built in the 8th century !

In the course of history this fortress underwent several wars, but was never destroyed, making it therefore the oldest remaining castle in Belgium.
Additional reinforcements were placed in the 16th century.

The castle is situated on a rocky spur in the afforested valley above the river Semois and consists of 3 fortresses which are linked by means of bridges with one another.

Not really an architectural gem, but a perfect example of a medieval fortification and still worth seeing.
