Castle ‘Cantecroy’ at Mortsel (Belgium)

In 1239 there was already a castle-like basic settlement on this spot which was finally the origin of this castle.

In 1566 the settlement was turned into a powerful stronghold and at the end of the 17th century, the castle got its current appearance which we can still see today.
A complete restoration was finished some years ago.

Just before World War II, Albert Einstein stayed a while in the castle when he fled for the nazis and was waiting for his visa to move to the USA.
