Container handling [ @ Port of Bremerhaven ]
Never believe a movie, where police officers give chase to gangsters trying to hide between containers! They would all be in deadly danger!
In real life all traffic will be stopped, if somebody moves out of a truck. There are a lot of safety cars all around to give signals for the so called van-carriers (look at the red ones), swaying containers back and forth into the assigned rows. The cranes have a bearing load of 112 tons! Right there they are unloading one of the Maersk Line containerships.
As a result of 9/11 the ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) code was implemented to counter possible threats to ships and port facilities. The safety measures are as high as on airports. You will never reach the quayside without being checked for legal entry.
I am sorry for the reflections. I know its a bit disturbing, but I couldn´t do it better out of the bus windows. Again it was my Nokia :-)
Also I couldn´t hold back this close view to such an impressive facility.
Port of Bremerhaven, # 20 in the world.

Thank you for sharing this, it's always interesting to watch people and machines at work. I guess inland such as I do makes maritime images interesting.Best Regards,

I like these 'industrial monuments' - and a container terminal is always something special. I am surprised about the Nokia quality..;). Compliments Matthias and enjoy your day.Matthias Moritz 18/06/2009 19:16
