Eagle-Owl

In the open air caves ‘Fondry des Chiens’ at Nismes, Belgium (see pictures below), 3 couples of Eagle Owls are living in the wild.

The Eagle Owl is one of the largest owl species in the world, with a wingspan of nearly 2 metres. An impressive and majestic bird !

This species lives across much of Europe, the Middle East, Russia and Asia, and as far east as China, Korea and Japan.
Its favourite habitat are rocky areas with cliffs and ravines.

The Eagle Owl has an average lifespan of 20 years in the wild (the oldest found ringed specimen so far was 27 years and 9 months old).

German name : Uhu
Latin name : Bubo bubo

Shot was made with a 850mm lens (500mm + 1,7x extender)
