East London streetview

I was in London with my family over New Year's Eve. We decided to do something different this year. The trip turned out very well. We stayed near the Liverpool Street underground station. Taking pictures in the company of your family definitely is a challenge as you make everyone annoyed by suddenly stopping to look at things all the time. Everyone else tends to go on walking which means you have about 10-15 seconds to take most pictures and you have to put your trust into a big chunk of pure luck, cropping and post processing.

On the last morning I had an hour to talk a photowalk all by myself. I find this area of East London charming with its old and worn textures. I focused on pitoresque doors etc but found out back home that many of the pictures came out quite flat. Something was missing to make the pictures more alive.

This scene I do like however. The idea was to capture the walker by right in the middle of the frame between the two shops. At the time I did not think of the street lamp and I did not use the continous shooting mode. I still think that the outcome with the semihidden lady has a certain twist.

Picture taken with a Nikon D300/18-200 mm and processed with Capure NX2 and Nik Software Color Efex Pro 3.0. Frame added with Photoshop Elements.
