Fairy Chimneys (2)
Turkey, Cappadocia, Göreme, Sept. 2013
Sedimentary rocks formed in lakes and streams and deposits that erupted from ancient volcanoes approximately 9 to 3 million years ago.
The rocks of Cappadocia near Göreme and Ürgüp eroded into hundreds of spectacular pillars and minaret-like forms, also called fairy chimneys.

This picture is especially for Cathy Blatt.
During our trip it was the topic of the day: "What do you see in these volcanic sculptures?"
Some people saw garden gnomes, my wife a group of women chatting together, and
I saw a sea lion (second right) trying to impress his fellow sea lions.
