FIGHTING THE FIRES ON CRETE
On the day of our arrival in Triopetra we passed through an attached valley and saw that brush fires were beginning and spreading fast. Within a matter of two hours the valley was ablaze and helicopters were summoned to help extinguish the fires. As it were, after a night without eletricity and communication, the following day things rapidly returned to almost normal. Thankfully, no harm came to the local population or animals, but the material damage was still widespread.
