Bei allen Fliegen (Hier eine Fliege der Art Phaonia sp.) wird der Flugmechanismus stark beansprucht und muss gekühlt werden. Um dies zu erreichen, nutzen die Fliegen eine Verdunstungskühlung.
Stark erhitzte Flüssigkeit wird aus der Flügelmuskulatur in den Kopf gepumpt und tritt als Tropfen am Rüssel aus. Innerhalb kürzester Zeit ist dieser heisse Tropfen verdunstet! Diese Aufnahme entstand heute an einer Birke. Dort konnte ich die ganze Aktion lange beobachten und hätte fast vergessen einige Fotos zu schiessen!
In all flies (here a fly of the species Phaonia sp.) the flight mechanism is heavily stressed and must be cooled. To achieve this, the flies use evaporative cooling. Highly heated fluid is pumped from the wing muscles in the head and exits as drops on the trunk. Within a short time this hot drop has evaporated! This photograph was taken today on a birch tree.
There I could observe the whole action for a long time and almost forgot to take some photos!
