    HI Jaime,

I agree, getting in closer and showing more of her and
    less background would be better.

I guess this comes with confidence (the ability to get
close to people before snapping). I think a telephoto
would not have worked as there were so many people
around and getting in the way.

this is a lovely shot, but i think more closer to get her facial features, also more sharpness.
The backround at the moment is way to busy, more focus on the little girl, great idea

Marie, I shall try that - but I will need to get a better scan done - this one was not such a high resolution.

I suggest you try a closer crop and just show the backs of the two poeple in the front and the girl looking at you in the middle. Know it is braking the rule of thirds, but that way you exclude details that does not add to the overall feel of the photo.

Thanks Dianna - maybe you would like to see some of my shots of the horses too (I read your profile).

There is already very little colour in the background (brown legs of the horse, red streak around carriage, green copper and red sandstone), but I guess if I made the sandstone a pale yellow, it would help. However, I think by doing this, I would be simply hiding something and using the patch of colour to highlight something else. What exactly do you think I could improve in the composition?

I like this shot. But really think I would make all the back ground black and white and leave only the young girl in color.
