Granny Eurydice, Greece...
Granny Eurydice lived in the village of Klimataki at the region of Grevena, Greece, less than 10 km away from my own village. I visited her few months before she died at the age of 96 years old. She survived the Balkan wars, the IIWW and a civil war raising children, grandchildren and gran-grandchildren and loosing beloved ones. In most rural areas of Greece, women are dressed in black after the lose of a dear person. And the longer they live the longer they mourn in black.
Granny Eurydice’s face is a face you cannot overpass too quickly. The depth of her eyes is wet, yet not crying.They have captivated sufferings of harsh times and mirror the dignity and the strength to go on living with these memories. The wrinkles are deeply scattered through in a sort of beauty that only time can draw in such an emotional expression…
