Historical Monument

A hill with a dominating position in central lowland Scotland with views from coast to coast. It was used and re-used as a major ritual site over about 4000 years. The summit lies 312 m above sea level, and is about 2 miles north of Bathgate. In the 19th century the site was completely concealed by trees, then in 1947–1948 excavations by Stuart Piggott found a series of ritual monuments from successive prehistoric periods. In 1998, Gordon Barclay re-interpreted the site for Historic Scotland. It is designated a scheduled ancient monument.

Historisches Denkmal

Ein Hügel mit einer dominierenden Position im zentralen Tiefland Schottlands mit Blick von Küste zu Küste. Es wurde über etwa 4000 Jahre hinweg als wichtiger Ort für Rituale verwendet und wiederverwendet. Der Gipfel liegt 312 m über dem Meeresspiegel und etwa 3,2 km nördlich von Bathgate. Im 19. Jahrhundert war die Stätte vollständig von Bäumen verdeckt, dann fanden Ausgrabungen von Stuart Piggott in den Jahren 1947–1948 eine Reihe von rituellen Denkmälern aus aufeinanderfolgenden prähistorischen Perioden. 1998 interpretierte Gordon Barclay die Seite für Historic Scotland neu. Es ist als geplantes antikes Denkmal ausgewiesen.
