Hi Bart, I do not think it is Sphinx ligustri. Look at the photos on this page. You'll see the thickened bit at the head end of the pupae which yours hasn't got.http://www.lepiforum.de/cgi-bin/lepiwiki.pl?Sphinx_Ligustri

Unfortunately I am no expert in breeding Sphingidae, but you could always compress your photo to 100KB and ask for identification here:

This pupae belongs to the Sphingidae (Schwärmer).Most probably it will hatch Lathoe populi or Mimas tiliae.
Where did you find it, and what trees etc grow nearby?
