The handle of a shepherd's stick can be kept simple as well as artfully decorated. For a carved horn handle you need an artistic talent, a steady hand and a lot of patience.

Der Griff eines Schäferstabes kann sowohl einfach gehalten, als auch kunstvoll verziert gestaltet werden. Für einen geschnitzten Griff aus Horn benötigt man schon eine künstlerische Begabung, eine ruhige Hand und viel Geduld.

"Horn carves easily, if you exercise patience. It is much more likely than wood for your carving to follow the grain more than you might like, but if you practice, this seems to clear up. Using files and rasps on Horn is like shaping the most friendly bit of wood you can imagine. Working horn "Hot" There are several ways of doing this. Essentially, however, is that as horn gets hotter, it gradually reaches a point where it becomes plastic enough to mold and shape. Judging from some of the examples I've seen, if done properly you can do some seriously amazing things with it."

Wenn es richtig gemacht wird, ist es möglich, einige wirklich erstaunliche Dinge damit machen."
