Kelpies with Ochil hills
Hier erkennt man die Lage und enorme Größe der Kelpies sehr gut. Einerseits wurde der Standort mit Bedacht ausgesucht, da er direkt am östlichen Ende des Hauptteils des Forth-Clyde-Kanals liegt und die Ochil Hills einen schönen Hintergrund bilden. Die Skulptur ist auch als eine Würdigung der Treidelpferde, die entlang des Kanals arbeiteten, gedacht. Andererseits verläuft auf einer Seite eine Trasse von Hochspannungsmasten und auf der anderen Seite die Autobahn A9 zwischen Edinburgh und Stirling, was das Fotografieren sehr erschwert. Persönlich hätte ich die Skulptur eher um zirka neuzig Grad gedreht und auf ein erhöhtes Podest gestellt.
Here you can see the location and enormous size of the Kelpies very well. On the one hand, the location was carefully chosen as it is located at the eastern end of the main part of the Forth Clyde Canal and the Ochil Hills form a beautiful backdrop. The sculpture is also thought to be an appreciation of the trekking horses that worked along the canal. On the other hand, there is a line of pylons on one side and the A9 between Edinburgh and Stirling on the other side, which makes taking pictures a lot more difficult. Personally, I would have turned the sculpture by about ninety degrees and put it on a raised pedestal.
