@Konrad: Unfortunately, faster exposure results in gray water color - (the background shows through). Also, the trees look dark-brown/black.
Furthermore, the white color is not a result of over-exposure. It is caused by the foaming water (i.e. this is pretty much what you see when you look at it without a camera).
In any case, I appreciate your advice.
P.S.
Double exposure is not an option with the D60.
for me its lacking a bit of structure in the water. the water is mostly only blown out highlights.it would be difficult because of the high contrast in this picture. but you could have tried with bracketed exposures and maybe overlaying two pictures.
