The Royal Palace of Aranjuez (Spanish: Palacio Real de Aranjuez) is one of the residences of the King of Spain. It is located in Aranjuez, 44 km south of Madrid.

The palace was commissioned by Philip II. It was begun in 1587 by the Grand Master of the Order of Santiago. Charles V took over this office in perpetuity, and the castle became part of the royal domain. It became the spring residence of the Spanish court, which abandoned it in summer for San Ildefonso, and was rebuilt several times.

It was created when Philip II of Spain moved the capital from Toledo to Madrid. Aranjuez became one of the four seasonal seats of government, occupied in spring (from around Holy Week). Subsequently, the court moved successively to Rascafría, El Escorial and spent the winter in Madrid.



Le palais royal d’Aranjuez (en espagnol : Palacio Real de Aranjuez) est une des résidences du roi d’Espagne. Il est situé à Aranjuez, à 44 km au sud de Madrid.

Le palais a été commandé par Philippe II. Il fut commencé en 1587 par le grand-maître de l'ordre de Saint-Jacques. Charles Quint s'étant emparé à perpétuité de cette charge, le château entra alors dans le domaine royal. Devenu la résidence de printemps de la cour d'Espagne, qui l'abandonne en été pour San Ildefonso, il fut reconstruit à diverses reprises.

Il a été créé à l'époque où Philippe II d'Espagne a déplacé la capitale de Tolède à Madrid . Aranjuez devint l'un des quatre sièges saisonniers du gouvernement, occupé au printemps (à partir de la semaine sainte environ). Par la suite, la cour s'installe successivement à Rascafría, El Escorial et hiverne à Madrid.
