Lest We Forget - Nov 11th, 2024
the cenetaph in downtown Vancouver, the place where every year we remember the fallen soldiers of all wars with silent moments, fly-over by old planes, speaches and wreaths of recognition ...
I was moved by this young cadet who paid his respects for to maybe one of his ancestors .....
Remembrance Day
More than 100 years after Armistice Day, the end of the 1st World War where 61 000 Canadian soldiers died .. and still the wars go on ... and soldiers and civilians die .... and veterans return physically or mentally injured ....
The first chapter of In Flanders Fields and Other Poems (a 1919 collection of poems by John McCrae) gives the text of the poem as follows:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Flanders Fields - diese Zeilen passen bestens zu diesem ganz besonderen Tag. Eine wunderbare Art des Gedenkens - so schön diese Stätte mit all den schönen Kränzen geschmückt! VG!CHOISNET Christiane 12/11/2024 9:45
The red poppy, a native plant along most of the Western Front of the First World War, has become an eloquent symbol of remembrance, thanks to John McCrae's moving poem, which you included in the caption to your photo, Adèle: “Au champ d'honneur les coquelicots sont parsemés...”.Honor to the Canadian and British soldiers who came to fight - in 1918 as in the summer of 1944 - alongside French soldiers, in Flanders and Normandy. Nice photo of this tribute to the soldiers with poppies. Chris.
