Maxim machine gun

The British killing machine of hundreds Tibetan people in Gyantse.

British solders and they Gorka-fighters took Gyantse on 12th of April 1904, finding very little resistance. They left Gyantse Dzong empty, preferring to set up camp outside of town- a choice that allowed Tibetan forces to regroup and, after laying seige to the British camp on 5th of May, reoccupy Gyantse Dzong and the nearby Tsechen Monastery and Dzong.
In the following weeks, British reinforcements arrived and the definitive battle of the British-Tibetan war unfolded. Despite their heroic resistance, the Tibetan defenders could not hold out against modern British artillery and this machine gun, and on 28th of June, Tsechen fell, with a final assault taking Gyantse Dzong on 5th of July.

The photo I captured in Ulaanbaatar/Mongolia. The Maxim gun was used by Russians too. This gun which here is photographed was given as a gift in 1914 from the Russian Tsar to the Mongolian troops.
