Napoleon Bonapartes grace.....t
Greece
island of Creta
south coast
August 1799. Napoleon returns to Egypt failing to reduce the strong fortress of Acre and, holding operations at standstill because of heavy casualties and diseases, receives bad news from Paris. France has suffered a series of defeats in the war of the Second Coalition. Defying the England naval supremacy and strict Meditteranean blockage, after his defeat at Aboukir, sets sail secretely for France leaving
his army at the hands of Jean Baptiste Kleber
despite that he had received no explicit orders from Paris. On the way he is forced to stop on the south coast of the island of Creta and spend the night in a Greek fisherman's house by the shore not revealing his identity.
Next morning, after his departure, the fisherman's wife cleaning the room finds a note on the pillow: "Napoleon Bonaparte has spent a night on this bed"...
Three months after, November 1999, organizing the Brumaire coup d"etat becomes first Consul of France.
His star had started to glitter...
In the photo the house where Napoleon spent the night on the south shore of Creta, near Ierapetra.

Splendid view, with the wild sea, the spectacular sky, this old stone-house which seems to lead directly into the water. Gorgeous.Best regards, Alexander. Ana
