the stanley cup, canada’s most precious artifact,
came to whitehorse to celebrate
the series between the dawson city nuggets and the ottawa silver seven
one hundred years before, in 1905 in ottawa.
i got a lady in the great crowd of admirers to put her little dog in it –
i told her it was okay because it was toronto maple leafs property.
the stanley cup guards just snickered and ignored us.
perhaps because the day before someone put their baby in it
and the picture of that showed up on the front page of the newspaper …
