On the farm (15) : Belgian Tumbler

The Belgian tumbler is a small, stocky pigeon breed that was first developed and bred around 1800.
This breed had the special characteristic that it could tumble, meaning : making one or more spectacular backward saltos while flying !!!

The breed still exists to a limited extent but as a true aviary pigeon who slowly unlearned to tumble because breeders had unfortunately more interest in the appearance (colour, shape, eyes) of the pigeon to win prizes at exhibitions instead of maintaining the striking flying technique.

Dutch name : Belgische tuimelaar
German name : Belgischer Tümmler
Latin name : Columba gyratrix
