Past Times-2
This is the Port of Leith which dates back to the 12th century, and when I was a boy this was a really tough place frequented by sailors and dock workers from the nearby docks and other people who you would not want to meet on a dark night. It was also full of wharfs and whisky bonds etc, and as a boy it was an exciting part of Edinburgh to visit.
Nowadays all the whisky bonds have been turned into upmarket housing, the pubs are now all Bistros etc and for me the Heart has been ripped out of this once notorious part of Edinburgh.

A worthy - and distinctive - addition to your portfolio, Lawson. And thank you for the interesting background on this now-placid looking spot. I think Alexander has the right idea regarding comparing the present to the past, but sometimes, it is just nice to be old enough to remember a different era, its sight and sounds (and, I'd imagine, its smells!)Compliments on a fine image!

GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!alexander stefanatos 14/01/2015 9:54
A very beautiful shot of an even more beautiful and picturesque landscape with a marvellous depth of field and excellent contrast as it always is the case with your shootings, Lawson. Don't try to compare past with present, most of the cases the result is a bitter dissapointment!...regards alexander

Good picture and very interesting explanations on the phenomenon of "gentrification" of this pittoresque area. The place remains beautiful, but I'm sure, unfortunately, that you only find fucking Heineken beer in the bars...
