Pond Skater / Water Striders (Gerris sp.) feeding on a Hoverfly
I recently had the good fortune to have a few particularly cooperative 'Pond Skater' models (also known as Water Striders, water skimmers and Jesus Bugs). These shots were taken using a coolpix 995 and here the swivel side which allows the axis of lens to be very low and close to parallel with the pond surface was a real plus. This is one type of shot were a DSLR would have a hard job competing without getting wet!
