Auschwitz II, Birkenau
Ash Lakes
In this little forest thousands of families were sitting together peacefully, sometimes having a picnic, unsuspecting, that they were spending their final hours and minutes of their lives, with the children playing amongst the trees.
Back on the right there is one of altogether five crematories.
Their ashes were tipped into lakes and moats around the crematories 3, 4 and 5.
Thus, the Nazis themselves unwittingly erected a memorial to their victims, as ashes and fragments of bones sealed the ground of those waters.
These waters will never run dry.
For those who are interesstet in te comments of the German and Italian speaking FC or the german text.

A peaceful scenery, early spring, nice weather - what a day for just strolling around in the forest...only the sheds in the background give a hint about what this place once was meant for!
greetings from germany,
